19thC Grand Mahogany Sofa Reputedly from Holland & Holland Gunsmiths.
A rather grand, imposing, masculine mid 19th century sofa carved in mahogany in the William the 4th taste. It reputedly was a shop fitting item in Holland and Holland Gunsmiths in London, it was the sold from there during a refurbishment to a Scottish Shooting lodge where is stood until it was cleared out in an auction.
The mahogany has a charming faded appearance which we have chosen to retain as it aids the sofas character, there are dents, scratches, old repairs and recent necessary repairs which we’re necessary for the ongoing use of such a beautiful piece of 19th century seating.
The sofa had unfortunately suffered at the shooting lodge as back legs were removed for fitting into a stepped alcove. These back legs have been rebuilt and cased in mahogany, the red leatherette that covered it has been removed to show the original horsehair and hessian padding. It is ready for reupholstery, the frame is strong and solid.
Measures 223cm wide by 63cm deep and 86cm high with the seat being 48cm high.
