19thC Dutch Carved Folding Oak Table


This is a charming antique octagonal folding table, This type of table comes from the North Western Region of the Netherlands. In oak and often referred to as a ship’s, tavern or campaign table from the 19th century Solid oak top in octagonal form with foliate carved border and figural carved centre.

Raised on splayed, square section legs with fluted details and bulbous turned lower legs, the base is joined together by foliated carved stretchers and a shapely gate leg. This type of folding systems allows for the table to easily be collapsed with the removal of a single wooden peg so that it can be stored away when not in use. It does have dents, marks, minor chips and losses along with historical repairs as to be expected from a utilitarian item.

Measures 62cm high by 83.5cm wide and 86cm deep.
